Food Myth – Eating after 7PM or 8PM Will Turn Into Fat
Truth – Our body doesn’t think – Hey, it’s 8pm, time to start converting whatever food gets eaten from this point on into fat! It doesn’t matter if you eat 6:00 AM, or 8:00 PM. It is what and how much you eat and how much physical activity you do during the whole day that determines whether you gain, loses, or maintains your weight. So, chances are you are decreasing your total amount of calories consumed in a given day. Your body will build up extra calories as fat. Your body still needs fuel to repair itself during the night and if you work out later in the evenings, it is even more important. To your body, 300 calories eaten at 10am are exactly the same as 300 calories eaten at 10pm.
Food Myth – Cutting back all Oil Reduces Weight
Truth – We need liquid fat (which we get from liquid oils) and monounsaturated fats like olive oil, avocados, peanut oil for normal bodily functioning. We don’t need saturated fats like margarine. The most crucial one is polysaturated fats like flax seeds, sesame, sunflower, soy. We also need essential fatty acids to supplement our diet with them. Low fat or fat free diets will cause us to be hungry which in turn will cause us to binge. Healthy liquid fat consumption actually promotes weight loss.
Food Myth - It’s ok to have Honey, Jaggery, Maltitol, etc instead of Sugar.
Truth – Sugar is just not the white crystals you consume, but is also present in white bread, pasta, cereals, etc. These are simple sugars often mentioned on packages that get camouflaged: maple syrup, sucrose, honey, molasses and cane juice. Even the chocolate bars that claim to be sugarless are not. Nevertheless they are all derivatives of sugar and cause the same problems as sugar. The natural sugar from fruits is the only alternative for sugar.
